I demanded that the police accept personal responsibility for their actions against the homeless, against women, against people peaceably assembled.  I demanded that they be present, that they accept that they were consciously choosing to do what they were doing.  I demanded that they look me in the fucking eyes. 

Only one did.  His eyes were smug and unflinching, but at least he had the backbone to show them to me.  I thanked him for that.
