A black US Marine was shot by an Orange County Sheriff in front of his 9 and 14 year old daughters, two weeks ago.

Sgt. Manuel Loggins, who received three good-conduct medals as well as both a Navy and Marine Corps achievement medal in his 14 years of service, was taking his family for a “prayer walk”.

He had an early morning work shift, and would often walk around the track of San Clemente High School while reading the Bible. His wife would have been with him, but she is expecting another child.

The Deputy shot Sgt. Loggins when he did not hear the order to stop and began to enter his Yukon SUV - according to the officer, he was concerned about the safety of the children.

The police union, for their part, blame the Marine. They say he was acting oddly, and making “irrational statements” to himself (ie he was probably praying), and that he created “a situation that put his children in danger and ultimately cost him his life.”

“The actions of our deputy clearly prevented serious harm from coming to Loggins’ two children and anyone else on the road that morning.”

It’s a good thing that officer shot at a parked vehicle with two young children inside to kill their religious black father. Otherwise, who knows what sort of dangerous things could have happened.
